Night Slugs affiliates Neana & Leonce team up for Steam Room, a hard hitting collection of dancefloor destroyers. Though living on opposite sides of the Atlantic, they managed to meetup at studios in Berlin and Atlanta while touring, and in a short time composed this magical EP. Combining elements of ballroom, R&B, and various flavors of house and techno from all over, these five new tracks provide a fresh outlook on club music from two very charismatic producers.
Things start off heavy with a snare frenzy flip of White Tee, NO1-NOAH and ATL R&B treasure Summer Walker’s sexy mid-year smash hit. The sensuality continues with Steam Room (The Way I Move), as a whispery vocal rides a collision of fragmented breaks and bouncy bass. Playful synth stabs and graceful chords create a lavish vibe on Herbal Essences, an introspective moment for the club. Big horn blasts and mischievous melodies meet industrial clang on Immanence, the EPs most tenacious track. Things close off with Tense It, a cyber tribal house beast with a vocal chant courtesy of underground legend Zebra Katz.
Together, these two provide the perfect amalgamation of elaborately crafted, yet punishing drums with deviceful tones and harmonies. It’s no surprise these two masters of percussion would gel in the studio, and create such a telekinetic project to shake the room. Whether you’re a dedicated party monster, a DJ, and/or a sound design nerd, we’re all very lucky this wonderful linkup came into fruition.
Born and raised in New Orleans, now living in Atlanta, Leonce is uncompromising, blending elements of American Urban and
Experimental Electronica, a hardline style that influenced his development as a producer. He co-founded the infamous Club Morph in 2016 and its electronic-hybrid imprint label Morph Tracks.
